Catalog or Reality?

The “Paula Dean” room featuring seating by Craftmaster is Christy’s favorite in the house.

Stunning New Home Is Beautiful Enough to Be Both

Jamie served as General Contractor for this new build, and Paragon Construction/Matt Kleekamp did the framing.

For Christy and Jamie Simpson, their third house in Franklin County is the charm — or maybe it’s just the most charming. It’s certainly their grand finale. Of course, we may be partial here at Union Furniture & Flooring. We sold them several roomfuls of furniture, plus all of the wood and tile flooring and all of the bathroom and kitchen tile for this new build framed by Paragon Construction/Matt Kleekamp. We think the end result is stunning! Like catalog pages straight from our manufacturers.

Christy deserves all of the credit for making these beautiful selections. She worked closely with several members of the sales team to bring everything together. Her mom, Carolyn, took an active role, too, helping Christy make decisions on fabrics and other options.

What’s your favorite detail? For Christy, it’s the tile floor in the laundry/mud room; the tile in the master bath shower; and the furniture in the “Paula Dean” room.

‘The Paula Dean Room’

Five of the rooms in the Simpsons’ new home are filled with furniture and accessories from our store, and three of those rooms feature pieces from the same collection — Chesapeake by Liberty. It’s in their master bedroom, the office and the dining room.

The Simpsons actually already owned one piece of the Chesapeake collection that they had in their previous home, a cabinet they used in the dining room. Christy didn’t know all of the Chesapeake pieces in the collection until her conversation with Linda on our sales team led to her pulling out the Liberty catalog to show her everything that was available to order.

“I actually had another bedroom group on order from another store, but it was taking so long (because of the pandemic) that I canceled that order and had you order the Liberty Chesapeake,” Christy said.

Obviously, Christy absolutely loves the collection, but none of the rooms with these pieces is her favorite in the house. That honor goes to “The Paula Dean Room.” That’s what Christy and her mom call the front room in the house because all of the pieces are from the Paula Dean collection by Craftmaster.

“It couldn’t be more perfect for what I had hoped for! The quality, craftsmanship, colors — all of it! I love that room!” Christy exclaimed.

The Chesapeake Collection by Liberty is featured in three rooms in the Simpsons’ house — the dining room, master bedroom and office. They also have four dining chairs around a coordinating table in the kitchen.

The Simpsons selected hardwood throughout most of their house. The only exceptions are the tile flooring used in the laundry/mud room and in the bathrooms.

Flooring Savings of $15,000

The Simpsons were already well into building when Christy came into Union Furniture & Flooring for the first time looking for furniture, completely unaware that we also sold flooring and had an entire Design Center. In fact, the couple already had a bid from another flooring company, but they weren’t happy with the price.

“I thought it was a little extreme,” Christy said, noting that when Angela started showing her wood samples and offered to write up a quote, she was curious to see the comparison. Turns out, there was no comparison.

Union Furniture & Flooring’s price came back $15,000 less, Christy said.

‘The Window Room’

“The Window Room,” as Christy and her mom call this family room space just off the eat-in kitchen, features a sofa and side chair by Flexsteel and a pair of leather push-back recliners with nailhead trim by BarcaLounger.

Customer Service Makes Them Customers for Life

Like most people who come into Union Furniture & Flooring, Christy felt love at first sight.

“I loved it right away!” she remarked. “I still love it — I’m still shopping for a few pieces. But Union Furniture is so much more than furniture. There’s the boutique, all the décor, so many decorating ideas, the great quality furniture, and then the flooring and the tile!”

As much as the Simpsons love all of the products they bought, it’s the service they received from start to finish that have made them customers for life.

Even when there were bumps in the road (one of the beloved Paula Dean chairs arrived damaged from the manufacturer just before Christmas), the Union Furniture & Flooring staff made sure the couple were not short any seating for the holiday until the replacement chair arrived.

The staff was always easy to work with and quick with follow up, Jamie said. They never hesitated to go the extra mile, like when the tile Christy had initially selected for the laundry/mud room ended up being discontinued, the flooring team found a nearly identical replacement and then personally drove the sample to the house for Christy to consider.

When it came to installation, the quality of both the flooring and tile installers was excellent, Christy said.

‘That Was White Glove Service!’

But the Simpsons were perhaps most impressed by the delivery team, in part because their youth only underscored their maturity. “They were beyond respectful of our home and very well mannered,” said Christy. “They took extreme care and were super cautious and careful.”

With all of the furniture, flooring and tile that the Simpsons purchased, the delivery team made several trips to their home. The furniture alone required two trucks. And before any of the pieces were carried into the house, the delivery team took the time to place felt pads on each one.

“They had a whole bag of those felt pads,” Christy said. “They put them on the furniture at the door, then carried it in and placed it wherever we wanted. That was just white glove service!”
